When the bus trundles into Mpophomeni in the afternoons, bringing learners home from Howick Secondary School, Slapper is watching from the top of the hill. As Nqubeko Mbuli aka Bright alights, she is suddenly right beside him to welcome him and walk home with him.

Slapper was one of a litter of 10 pups, whose mother died in childbirth about 4 years ago. Bright chose to keep her because she has a white chest just like her mother, when they took the rest of the puppies to the SPCA. Bright and Slapper live with their big family of 13 – Slappers favourite food is boerewors, while Bright reckons his Auntie makes the best ijeqe and boontjies in the world!
